Lisa McAuliffe V.N, BSc (Hons), BVSc, CertVOphthal, MSc VAA, MRCVS

Our Head Vet is Lisa McAuliffe. Lisa started out her veterinary life as a veterinary nurse and went onto study Animal Science and then Veterinary medicine at the University of Liverpool, she qualified in 2003.

Lisa has continued to study, and was awarded the RCVS Certificate in Veterinary Ophthalmology in 2009 and has completed a Masters with distinction from the University of Edinburgh in Veterinary Anaesthesia and Analgesia. Lisa was the first veterinary surgeon to complete this degree and is the only holder of this award in Ireland.

Lisa’s been in Ireland for 11 years now, working exclusively in small animal hospitals and you may have seen her on RTE’s The Pet Surgeons. She is regularly lecturing to both vets and nurses and has several ophthalmology clinics running in a variety of counties for those who can’t travel.

Her base though is in Midleton and she’s looking forward to meeting you at the new clinic!

Barbara Healy MVB GPCert (Ophthal)

Barbara graduated from UCD and moved to England in 1998. After a number of years in general small animal practice, she developed a keen interest in eyes and obtained her cert in Ophthalmology in 2010. She moved back to Cork in 2019, and joined The Vet Clinic in 2023.

Barbara has a lurcher at home and enjoys swimming and walking the dog in her time off.

Joanne Wheatley RVN

Joanne graduated from as a veterinary nurse from St. Johns’ Central College in 2010 and completed her top-up degree through Napier
University in 2017, she worked in a large, busy veterinary hospital for over 10 years where she was head nurse for 7 of them. She has a keen interest in nursing clinics and client support. She has joined The Vet Clinic for new challenges and to be closer to home, she lives here in East Cork with her partner, son, dog Lenny, cat Ollie and three misbehaving hens.
