The ISPCA has recently launched their SpayAware Campaign which aims to help reduce the number of unwanted cats and dogs in Ireland by encouraging owners to neuter their pets as early as possible.

This has a number of positive health benefits for pets in the long term such as

• reducing the risk of certain cancers
• curbing unwanted or undesirable sexual behaviours
• preventing unwanted offspring

It’s important to perform these procedures at the right age in both dogs and cats and this time may vary with species and breed.
When your female cat is about four-months-old, she will start to attract the attention of male cats. Therefore, spaying is important to protect her from getting pregnant while she’s still a kitten herself.

Neutering can help stop male cats from spraying in your house marking their territory, which can be foul smelling. Neutering tends to prevent wandering so helping male cats stay closer to home and less likely to getting nasty injuries from fighting.

Neutering & Spaying can reduce the risk of them being stolen for breeding.
Surgeries are completed under a general anaesthetic and normally this is a day patient procedure. Animal usually recover quickly. It’s a myth that your pets will gain weight and we can provide advice on a suitable diet to suit the breed and size of your pet.
